Frequently asked questions
Q:Why dance?

A:Just like any other Barbie-loving 4-year old out there, I chose to dance after I was gifted a Barbie in the Nutcracker doll. It had a beautiful, sparkly tutu on and it even came with a stand that allows Barbie to twirl around. It was the perfect doll for me, and I loved it to bits! It was because of this doll that I begged my parents to enroll me in dance classes. They were hesitant at first, but after seeing me sleep in 5th position, with my tiny little arms framing my head, that they finally gave in. The world of performing was something quite shocking to me as a shy little kid, but I stuck to it, knowing I’d be closer to my dreams of becoming like Barbie. Fast forward to today- here I am still a shy person but now I dance not for Barbie, but for the sheer happiness and sense of completeness it gives me.

Q:What genre do you specialize in?

A:I started dancing classical ballet at the age of 4, so that’s the genre I have most experience in. I was introduced to modern and contemporary dance in high school and although it was tough for me to embrace the new styles, I eventually learned to love them as much as I do classical ballet.
Q:What's your choreography style?

A:I love creating works that have a certain flow to it- where one movement leads to another, creating an action-reaction kind of relationship. I also love playing with dynamics, adding sharp, precise accents to slow, restrained movement. When choreographing, I tend to look for the feeling where every part of the piece "clicks" together, as if they were Lego or puzzle pieces- that's when I know a choreography works!

Q:What motivates you?

A:It might sound weird, but there’s a certain joy I feel when I see how much I’ve sweat after a long day of classes and rehearsals. For me, the moment my towel stops working is when I know I’m working hard and giving it my all. In my own odd little way, this reminds me of the bliss that comes with dancing, and it makes me want to keep doing it until I’m 100 years old!
Q:What kind of work do you want to land?

A:I’d be happy with any kind of work that allows me to dance to my fullest potential- be it classical ballet, modern, or contemporary dance. I also love creating choreographies. I love the feeling of having the steps “click” or connect to one another- it’s just so satisfying! I directed and choreographed my first show, “Seconds and Minutes” last March, so I have experience working on choreographies for the stage, but I’d also love to choreograph for things like commercials, music videos and short films. I’d also love to model for dancewear sometime! In short- I can make any job work!
